Hi all. We’re back with another tag post. I’m slowly catching up on tags. I think I’m finally into the ones I got in February, so I’m only two months behind. This time we’ve got the Liebster award which was created for the following:
It’s an award in which bloggers nominate other bloggers for showing respect to their works and their dedication. It’s an appreciation and recognition for all the fellow bloggers out there in the blogosphere!
I received the tag from Megan over on A Geeky Gal. She’s a fantastic blogger and a beacon of positive energy within the community. Her blog covers a range of topics normally associated with geek/nerd subculture such as video games, anime, and fandoms. She also recently celebrated her seventh anniversary blogging. I’ve only really scratched the surface of her blog and you should give it a look if you aren’t already following her.
Thank you for the nomination, Megan!
Rules:
- Write about it on your blog and thank the person who nominated you, write about his/her blog too.
- Display the award on your blog.
- Nominate 5 or 10 blogs which you feel deserve it.
- Let the nominees know that you nominated them.
Without any further preamble, let’s dive into Megan’s questions.
What movie can you watch over and over without ever getting tired of?
The Other Guys. It is such a stupid movie, but I never tire of seeing an angry Mark Wahlberg playing off of Will Farrell. The funny thing is I don’t actually enjoy seeing either of those actors alone in films. Together they really help to bring out the best in one another even if their best is only used for incredibly juvenile humour.
What are your current favorite YouTube channels?
Game Maker’s Toolkit and Super BunnyHop. Both channels provide a ton of very interesting video game related videos. The former covers topics that stem mostly from a game design perspective while the latter has a much broader selection of topics.
What book(s) are you currently reading?
None unfortunately. I am not a big reader. I think I lack the imagination required to really get into written stories.
What is your weird blogging tip?
Weird blogging tip. Weird. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeird.
I don’t know if this is weird, but start writing when you have an idea. Sitting on it forever will never bring the idea to fruition. The only way to make that happen is to actually start writing.
What Hogwarts house would your favorite fictional character be sorted into?
I’m not really sure. Mostly because Hat Kid isn’t a very well defined character. All I know about her is that she is kind of bubbly and helps others. Gryffindor I guess? All the characters who save the day are from that house, so I suppose that checks out.
What was the last movie you watched?
Sonic the Hedgehog. A buddy and I were planning to see it after we saw the original trailer. It looked like it’d be super cringey, so the plan was to get smashed and then laugh ourselves into a coma watching the movie. Unfortunately, it was a very okay kids film. There was not nearly as much cringe as we’d hoped for.
Do you have any obsessions right now?
I am just coming off of eight weeks of Monster Hunter, so I’d hazard that counts as an obsession. I rather enjoyed my time with the Iceborne expansion, but I think having put another three hundred hours into the game warrants a bit of a break before I completely burn myself out.
If your job gave you a surprise three day paid break to rest and recuperate, what would you do with those three days?
Sleep. Cook. Video games.
I am a simple creature.
What is your favorite podcast right now?
I don’t listen to many podcasts, but I do enjoy the Dad and Sons podcast. It’s a video game centered podcast created in part by the fellow who runs the Youtube channel Super Bunnyhop. It’s usually a good time to sit around and listen to Liam, Matt, and George shoot the breeze while chatting about video games every week.
What fictional character would you love to have as your RPG game master?
Gandalf I guess? He seems like he’s been around so he’d be able to come up with numerous scenarios that seem challenging, but which have an easy solution if all the players involved worked together. Plus he strikes me as a wicked storyteller.
There you have it. ten questions answered. Now to nominate some victims for my own ten questions.
AK – Everything is bad for you
DanamesX – Tales from the Backlog
Robert Ian Shepard – Adventure Rules
Questions wot I’m subjecting you to:
- We’re four months into the year (at the time of writing) – what’s your favourite game played thus far?
- What’s your favourite Pokémon? (don’t read into this too much)
- Have you watched any shows lately that you’d highly recommend?
- What was your favourite movie from 2019?
- How do you feel about games with no single player content?
- What is your least favourite genre of game?
- What is your favourite genre of game?
- What game from your backlog have you recently finished?
- Physical or digital?
- Pinecone?
Looking forward to your responses if you decide to participate in the tag.
Me reading you asking what’s your favourite pokemon like oooooh is this for ideas.

I would love to see Gandalf be a GM! Nice answers, Frost. Thanks for participating. 🙂

Thank you again for the nomination.
I know it took me a while to get around to it, but I’m slowly working through the backlog of tags I’ve accumulated. Looking forward to that light novel title one when I eventually get to it. 😀

I feel like I already recommended this, but if you enjoy GMTK, you should check out Adam Millard – he has a very similar format, but where Mark has started to branch out into general systems in gaming and development, Adam is more focused on “elements” of finished video games. For example, he seems to notice a cool mechanic, story twist or how a game made him feel, and thinks “huh, what other games utilize this, and what did I learn from my research?” Also, he has a funny little avatar that he customises for each of his videos 🙂
Your three-day-paid-break is the objectively right answer. Whoever said anything else, is just wrong. Don’t be mad at me, I didn’t make up the rules…
Are you kidding me? Gandalf would be a TERRIBLE GM! Player: “Okay, I open the door.” Gandalf “Hahaaa, that’s what you THOUGHT! The door is locked tight! YOU! SHALL NOT! PASS! MUUAHAHahaha!” – “Gandalf, every door so far has been shut. We had to dig a freakin’ tunnel to get out of our starting room…”
To be fair, he’d be an even worse player. I mean, he did send his whole party away in Moria so he didn’t have to share XP. And when he showed up again, he had absolute killer gear! *mumble, mumble* bastard *mumble, mumble*
Also, definitely pinecone!

I think you have and I forgot, so I’ll go watch some videos now so that I retain this information.
Obviously. What else are you to do with your time?
Perhaps. But I get the impression he’d be a killer story teller and that’s what I’d be more interested in. I’ve had far too many GMs who were terrible at weaving a tale while we ventured through their various set pieces.
Heh. I think that has become the most on brand joke for me.

This was a good suggestion. Mr Millard is quite good.

Glad you like him! His videos got really good in the last few months, and I like how he recently tries to bring the whole community forward by recommending other channels and promoting them.

I also see kind of where you got the question about the games that I chose to cover last year. His 2019 games you should play recap video deliberately avoided mentioning the likes of Slay the Spire in favour of a bunch of games that had far less time in the limelight. XD
Though at the pace I’m going this year I dunno if I’ll have enough games played to even do a top and bottom 5 for 2020 lol

You’re right, your style had reminded me a bit of him, and so I was wondering what changed, back then.
You can always try some tiny “filler” games to complete your lists. Sometimes they can be surprisingly good (or absolutely horrible…)

Last year I think I was about half and half for more obscure stuff and more notable releases, but that was intentional. Though it ended up being that Slay the Spire was one of my favourite games of the year. Turns out it is popular for a reason. It’s really fun.
I bought what I thought were a few shorter games, but I’m finding out now that was not the case. Ah well. Hopefully I still round out the year at around forty-something games played.

Hey, thanks for the tag! I’m backed up on these but I’ll try to get to your questions, especially that last one.
