Alright. Time for another tag post. This time the Super Happy Love award. This one was originally conceived by Pinkie from Pinkie’s Paradise as a way to spread positivity amidst the chaos of 2020. I was nominated earlier this year by Emily from Monsterlady’s Diary and am now getting round to it. So let’s start with the rules and go from there.

  1. Thank the one who tagged you and if at all please tag the original post as well. This is my first blog tag and a bit of a passion project so I would like to see where it spreads! Oh and use Super-Happy-Love as a tag!
  2. Display the Super Happy Love Logo in your post Share the rules!
  3. Choose a minimum of 2 out of these 6 prompts to answer in this blog! More is always allowed! These six prompts are as follows:
    • Tell about a person you love, this can be a friend, partner but also a celebrity or even youtuber who means a lot to you. As long as they once took breath on this earthly realm you are allowed to pick them… Tell us why you love them.
    • Write something about a fandom or franchise you love. It can be your favorite game series or about just about anything that is bigger than just a single product! Tell us why you love this so much!
    • Tell us something about a character that you love. Do you have a Waifu, a Husbando, maybe a mentor or someone who taught you a valuable lesson. Tell us why you love them.
    • Tell us something about a piece of music that you love. Does a anime intro mean a lot to you? Did you have a special memory to a pop song, like your first dance at your wedding? Maybe a piece of video game music? If you love it, you should tell us why!
    • Show us why you love a piece of media so much! A Book, A Game, A Anime, A Movie maybe even a random piece of fan art, you are free to pick as long as you can show us why you love it.
    • Write something about yourself that you love! For those who like a challenge, there is a hard mode in this blog prompt as well. Tell us why you love a certain aspect of yourself
  4. Put on your rose tinted glasses. For once you are allowed to gush about the things that you love without having to balance it out with negatives so that you seem objective. In fact your are actively encouraged not to bring negativity into this tag. So no, “Nowadays is poopoo but back in my days…it was great”. Just say it was great! Love is blind after all!
  5. Tag 6 bloggers you love so they can take on this challenge as well.
  6. Everyone who comments something lovely about your post ALSO gets nominated (should they so choose).

Well first off, thank you very much to Emily for the tag. Her blog is a haven of different posts about geek culture including posts about mental health, video games, music, movies, and books. Give it a read and her a follow if you haven’t already.

Alright. Now to write one of the most challenging blog posts I’ve ever written. Rule number four says I should refrain from being my usual self, so let’s do this!

A Person I Love

The obvious person to go with here is Mir, so that’s what I’m going to do.

Mir and I have been together for…I want to say four years, but we were friends before that. When I actually think about it I really appreciate the time we’ve spent together. I’m not exactly the easiest person to get along with. I’m chronically grumpy and have self-esteem issues. That doesn’t make for great company. Despite that, Mir still sticks around and actively makes my life better. She’s there to help prop me up when I’m being crushed under the weight of my own insurmountable expectations and constantly tries to force a smile onto my face.

She’s also one of the most kind people I’ve ever met. I don’t know that I’ve ever met someone who so consistently puts the needs of others before her own. She’s like a support main, but in the real world. That’s a pretty great quality to have in a partner.

I also really like how she challenges me to be better. I grew up in a household where confrontation was how most problems were dealt with. My parents argue a lot: usually about nothing.1 So that is how I default to solving most problems – through some form of confrontation. Mir is very non-confrontational, so that has forced me to approach things with a different mind set. I have to be more gentle and less of my usual abrasive self. And I think in doing that I’ve been able to translate being a less prickly over to other areas outside of our relationship.

So yeah. Mir is great.

A Character I Love

I’m going to go with Jill from Va-11 Hall-A. While she probably has all the necessary qualities to be prime waifu material that isn’t why I like her. No, rather I like Jill because she is a reminder that I’m not alone.

I just got through saying how supportive Mir is, so what exactly do I mean by that.

When you have terrible self-esteem and go through random bouts of depression it is hard to not become fixated on how shitty you feel. Your gaze narrows and you continually lambaste yourself for not being good enough. You re-live past mistakes and remind yourself how if you did better, or were better that things would have worked out better. But they didn’t. And you’re the only reason they didn’t.

I like Jill so much because she suffers through these same problems. Part of what makes her so effective as a character is how easy it is to relate to Jill. She lives with regrets from past mistakes, and comes across as suffering from both her low self-esteem and depression. Despite this, she is still able to, at times, overcome these obstacles and seeing that is very empowering. Even though she is a fictional character she feels authentic enough that it becomes plausible that you too can overcome your own struggles.

More so than that, Jill is also a reminder that you aren’t alone. You aren’t the only person who has felt the sting of failure. You’re not the only person suffering with depression. You’re not the only person who has low self worth. There is comfort in knowing that other people out there are going through the same struggles as you.

That took a lot more out of me to write than I’m used to. I don’t like feelings. So I think I’ll cap this one at the two mandatory replies instead of delving further.

How many victims do I get to nominate this time? Six? Alright. Here’s some bloggers I enjoy who can partake if they haven’t already.

Quietschisto – RNG

Kim – Later Levels2

Meghan – Meghan Plays Games

GD – The Gaming Diaries

Solarayo – Ace Asunder

AK – Everything is Bad for You

And for anyone who is reading this tag post that wants to join in that I haven’t explicitly called out, please do so. With all of the…stuff…going on in the world at the moment taking a moment to write about something positive might be an effective exercise. And sharing positive energy is never a bad thing.

Until next time, thanks for reading.

1: Mom I know you read the blog and even you have to admit that I’m right on this one.

2: Kim I know you don’t really do tag posts, but maybe you’ll get an idea for an alternative post? 🙂
