Been a little while since I’ve done a tag post, so it’s time to pull one off the backlog. I don’t accumulate these things as fast as I used to but always appreciate the nominations.

This time around I have William from WCRobinson to thank for the nomination. William is rather active within the blogging community writing about movies and video games. I’m an especially big fan of his five hundred word reviews as the word count forces quite a bit of creativity when it comes to expressing one’s thoughts on a movie. Along with that he also recent covered how he fell down the Gwent rabbit hole. If you haven’t already you should give his work a looksie.

Da Rules:

1. Thank the blogger who nominated you
2. Tell your readers three things about yourself
3. Answer the five questions from your nominator
4. Nominate some other poor souls
5. Share the link to your best post(s)

Three Things About Me

I had to troll through the previous two of these to figure out what I’d already said so I could come up with new things here.

I’ve had Surgery on both my Lungs

I can’t believe I’ve never shared this before.

I had my right lung collapse when I was twenty. Turns out if you grow vertically too quickly you can stretch the tissue inside your chest cavity quicker than your body can replace it, or something to that effect. The result is kind of like when you take fabric and stretch it until it rips. I know that sounds terrible, but I’m still alive so it couldn’t have been that bad.

The second surgery was preventative because I was having issues with my left lung following the first surgery. The stress of school and the sense of paranoia that the other would collapse at any moment is ultimately what drove me to opt in to more surgery. Thankfully this helped to sort out most of the pain and also put me in a place where I can’t have my lungs randomly fail on me. Also, the decision to go through with both surgeries was made easier because I’m located in Canada, so choosing to have two surgeries within six months wasn’t a life sentence for economic poverty.

I’m twenty seven now and mostly fine. I don’t really know that my chest ever fully recovered from being cut into twice, but I’m still here so there’s that.

My Favourite Book is the Great Gatsby

An American Classic! Or so I’m told.

Back in grade twelve we were made to read one of two different books on our own time in addition to our normal English class work-load. I really did not care for the overwhelming majority of the books that were assigned throughout my school career, so when I found out the Great Gatsby was three hundred pages shorter than the other option I immediately jumped on it.

I wasn’t expecting that I’d actually enjoy the book. Spoiler warning for a super old book: my favourite part about it is how it builds up the main cast of completely irredeemable, self-absorbed assholes and then flushes them all down the toilet in the final two chapters. Rarely do I get to see such a satisfying catastrophe play out where everyone gets their comeuppance. It’s perfection.

My Jaw Unhinges When I Yawn

I don’t know how, but my jaw is like a snake’s and snaps in and out of position whenever I yawn. The noise really bugs Miranda and I unfortunately subjected my entire stream to the noise a few weeks back. I don’t know how to stop it from happening either. I guess I could just hold my jaw in place instead of letting it fall down past the point of unhinging.

Sorry this section was dominated by weird body stuff, but I couldn’t think of more normal things to mention that I hadn’t already mentioned.

Questions from William

Is there a particular genre of game, anime, or otherwise that you previously did not have much experience with, but over recent times have found yourself discovering an enjoyment of?

I suppose fighting games technically count?

I’ve written about my experience with fighting games and, while I’d always been fascinated by them, I wasn’t always able to play them. It was only over the past couple of years that I really got into the genre through finally learning the language of fighting games. Now that I have a firm grasp on how games within the genre speak, I’ve noticed I’m able to pick up new fighting games with relative ease and can enjoy them much in the same way I enjoy other games.

Have you ever considered getting into cosplay? If so, which character(s) do you reckon you would embody?

No.

I dress like a hobo on the regular and cosplay seems like far too much effort. It’s really interesting to see what cosplayers come up with for their own cosplays, but that’s just not something I have even a passing interest in doing myself.

Which is your favourite gaming-time snack and drink combo?

Uh…water. No really. That’s it.

Water is my drink of choice most of the time and I don’t like eating while I’m playing games. I find that food usually gets in the way or messes up one’s keyboard/controller, which then requires additional cleaning. Better to just keep your playing area clear of food.

Is there a particular game series you have never played that you plan to soon get into?

I guess to answer the question a little retroactively, I did recently give Disgaea a try because of AK. He’s written about the franchise so passionately before and one of his posts in early 2020 got me interested in trying the franchise. It took me until over a year later to actually do so, but I’m really enjoying it. It’s got just enough strategy to keep you thinking and really lets you break the game open if you’re willing to dig into the game’s systems, which has led to a far more engaging experience than a lot of the other RPGs I’ve played.

If you could go on holiday with any fictional character, who would it be and where? You can choose the tone of holiday!

Uh…pass.

I’d prefer to go on holidays alone. Well…I’d bring Mir, but other than that I don’t really want to see or interact with anyone. I like being alone. A lot.

I know that’s a cop-out answer, but I really can’t think of any fictional character I’d actually want to spend time with.

Okay that’s it for this time. Thank you again William for the nomination. I know I took my sweet time getting around to answering the nomination, but if it makes you feel any better it only took me half a year instead of over a year like Disgaea did.

Until next time, thanks for reading.
